Today, hundreds of staff and students at Cirencester College gathered for a Remembrance Service to honour service men and women whose lives were lost or affected by conflict.
The College’s annual service was opened by Uniformed Services students, who marched to gather at the College cenotaph. Principal Matt Reynolds welcomed those in attendance with a touching speech which highlighted the importance of honouring soldiers from Britain and all over the Commonwealth for the sacrifices they made and continue to make today.
Reverend Canon Michael Irving led the prayers, a choir of students from The Sundial Theatre Company, the College’s student-led theatre group, led the crowd in singing Jerusalem. This was followed by a beautiful performance of Seasons of Love by Jonathan Larson, from the musical Rent.
After the trench whistle, students from the cadets laid wreaths on the cenotaph before the last post was played and a two-minute silence was observed. Uniformed Services then marched to close the service.
The service was also watched by over 100 people at home and in classrooms via a live stream facilitated by students in the College’s Media department.
College Principal Matt Reynolds said “Remembrance is always a very special event for Cirencester College. So many of the freedoms we have today in our modern world were paid for by those who gave their lives fighting tyranny in the past. I’m so proud of our staff and amazing learners who contribute to Remembrance and support it. The choir this year, and supporting public service march and cadets are a credit to themselves and the College.”
