Congratulations to Year 1 student Megan, who was recently declared as the Under 18 British Karate Champion.
Megan, who is studying A-levels in Maths, 3D Design, and History, started karate five years ago as she wanted to try something new. After giving it a go, she really enjoyed it and decided to keep at it.
After being encouraged by her coach to start competing, Megan went in for the British Championships competition held in Cheltenham.
“In my event, the males and females were mixed together”, said Megan, “I felt very nervous on the day, especially after watching the person who ended up coming in second place. I don’t think that winning has really sunk in yet, even now looking back it feels a bit surreal!”
Megan is now focusing her training on her next competitions; the English Championships that are taking place on 9th June, followed by the World Championships in the Czech Republic.
