Congratulations to the Karen Bell and the High Needs team at Cirencester College for coming runner up in the Sixth Form College Association award for Social Mobility.
The Sixth Form College Association annually review exemplary initiatives across the sector to identify outstanding practice for its prestigious National Awards. After winning the Curriculum Innovation award in 2022, this year, Cirencester College have come runner up in the Social Mobility category.
The creative approach of the High Needs team in integrating students with SEND into mainstream education, supporting the development of the skills and independence, which they need for their progression aims and a positive destination after College, many getting good university places, has been recognised as outstanding practice, landing Karen and her team with the runners up trophy.
Karen Bell, Faculty Head of High Needs and Adult Education at the College, said “I am delighted that the dedication and commitment of the Academic and Learning Support Team has been recognised as contributing to the social mobility agenda, supporting learners with substantial barriers to achieve their potential. This particular award meant a lot to our late Principal Jim Grant, so I know he would have been very proud.”
Matt Reynolds, Interim Principal at Cirencester College, said “There is genuine outstanding work being done here to help students achieve their goals and make big steps forward. The recognition of the award is well deserved by the team and a real credit to the leadership of Karen Bell, whose team is utterly dedicated to the learners we have. I feel so proud of them and our learners.”
