This week Year 1 A-level Sociology students welcomed Lisa Oxenham, who is the Beauty & Style Director of Marie Claire magazine, to the Sundial Theatre for an inspiring talk on the changing nature of fashion and beauty.
The students learned about the evolution of the beauty industry and how magazines such as Marie Claire hold issues such as sustainability and inclusivity at the heart of the work they do. Over her 20 years in the industry, Lisa has been involved in many editorials working with celebrities and fashion houses to raise awareness of issues such as mental health, body image and domestic violence.
Lisa also offered an insight into the changing nature of language within marketing and the fast-changing role of influencers in the beauty and fashion sectors.
Sociology Lecturer Elly Hoyle said “It was a pleasure to have Lisa in College. Students got the opportunity to hear from an industry expert about the key projects the magazine is currently working on and the issues the media industry faces in an ever-changing world. No doubt her insight will help students in utilising contemporary examples related to the new media within their exam answers. We appreciate Lisa taking the time our of her pressurised role and we look forward to welcoming her back to Cirencester College in the future”
