Congratulations to Year 2 students Denham and Ghaith, and Ash, Cirencester College’s Deputy Security Lead, who have all recently won boxing titles in their respective categories.

Sport and Exercise Science student Denham has been dedicated to boxing since he was 14, and has strong aspirations to go professional. After an incredibly successful season in which he won the Amateur South West Elite Title, Denham is busy preparing for his next round of competitions.

“This season I have completed 2 out of 3 of my goals, which was winning another national title and winning the Elite South West belt”, said Denham, “I have an international boxing cup in June to hopefully gain all of my 3 goals for the season. I won my first national title in the 22/23 season and have boxed in four national finals, winning three of them. The feeling of winning any title is like no other, knowing all the hard work and sacrifices have paid off. I’m looking forward to competing in the Senior Elite Championships next season and have begun preparations already.”

Biology, French, and Business student, Ghaith, has also had a season to be proud of. After starting boxing just a year ago with the aim of improving his fitness and learning self-defence skills, on 5th April he became the worthy winner of the Tank Promotions Junior Belt.

Ghaith said “It felt great to be able to represent the gym in front of other people. I train at JJs Community Boxing in Cirencester. I aim to train minimum 3-4 times a week in the gym and do some extra fitness by myself whether I am preparing for a fight or not. Boxing has helped me to be able to stay active and it has taught me a lot about behaviour in the outside world. After I complete my A-levels I would like to defend my belt.”

Ash, Deputy Security Lead at College, has boxed on and off since he was 16 years old, and rediscovered his love for the sport three years ago when he began regularly training with JJs in Cirencester to get in shape and benefit his mental health. In the last three years Ash has competed in five fights, gaining four wins and one draw. Ash is the current Tank Promotions Novice Heavyweight Champion, and he is preparing to defend his title in July.

Congratulations Denham, Ghaith, and Ash. We wish you the best of luck with your upcoming competitions.
