Congratulations to former Cirencester College student, Molly, who secured a full-time position as a Journalist Coordinator at BBC Radio Wiltshire, just two months after finishing College.
Molly studied at Cirencester College from 2022-2024, and gained the top grade of a distinction star in Creative Media Production.
After originally applying for an apprenticeship role at the BBC, and just missing out, Molly was thrilled to be contacted by the Executive Director about applying for the role of Journalist Coordinator.
Day to day, Molly handles a wide variety of tasks, from dealing with breaking news to celebrity interviews and overcoming problems that arise. She spends her mornings planning the show, before heading to the operations desk in the afternoon to put the show out with the radio presenter.
“My favourite thing to do in my job is work with people. I have been lucky enough to meet so many amazing people and help promote fundraisers and charity events and also raise awareness of big topics. It is always great fun, and I love talking to people.
The best thing I have done so far is go to the Caenhill Countryside Farm. It was such great fun, and I got to put on some wellies and feed donkeys- while at work!
I think my College course really prepared me for the practical side of my role. I learnt a lot of varied skills at College which have helped me go straight into the role. Some of my favourite memories of my time at College are the projects we all worked on together as a class. They were always so fun; challenging, but lots of memories. I also enjoyed our trips to Disney and Harry Potter Studios!
In a few years I see myself in a journalist role at the BBC as I have enjoyed doing some reporting and producing. I am enjoying everything at the moment, so I am not in a rush to specialise just yet!”
Nigel Gooing, one of Molly’s former lecturers, said “Molly always showed real determination to do well in her course but also to develop the other key skills she needed to help her get a job in the media industry. The teaching team saw Molly develop in the creative and technical know how to a high level throughout the two years she was with us. She experimented with new techniques, and never hesitated to ask for feedback. Her dedication to improving her skills shone through in the project she created.
Getting that first job in the media industry can be really hard as it is such a competitive area to work in. So it’s really exciting for the teaching team to see Molly starting her career journey at the BBC so soon after finishing her course.”
