Congratulations to Kerry Walklett, Head Coach of the College’s Women’s Football Academy has been selected for the England Futsal squad for the upcoming FIFA Futsal World Cup Qualifiers.

Kerry, who plays for Cardiff City FC Women, began coaching the Cirencester College Women’s Football Academy in September 2022, and has led the squad to back-to-back victories in the Association of College’s Women’s Football League Midlands Division, and South West Regional League A respectively.

Kerry will travel to Moldova with the Futsal Lionesses squad in October for the qualifying matches.

“I’m really honoured to be selected to represent England in October”, said Kerry, “The camps and selections process started last year and it’s something I’ve worked really hard to be a part of, so to be chosen was really exciting.

Going to the World Cup Qualifiers is something I’m really excited to experience, the whole squad has been working really hard to prep the best we can, and we are looking forward to testing ourselves against some really experienced countries.

This will be my third season as the Women’s Football Academy Coach at Cirencester College, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time so far. It’s great to see the standard and the number of girls playing each year considerably improve. It really demonstrates how far women’s football has grown over the last five to ten years. I’m looking forward to starting the season with a new squad and seeing what we can achieve!”

The Football Academy at Cirencester College offers talented footballers the opportunity to develop with multiple training sessions a week that fit around their studies, and the opportunity to represent the College in weekly competitive fixtures in the Association of College’s Leagues and Cups.

Ross Langworthy, Sport Lecturer and Manager of the Cirencester College Football Academy, said “Kerry is an outstanding role model to any young female footballer and our Women’s Academy players are incredibly fortunate to be able to learn from someone of her playing and coaching calibre. Kerry has always been passionate about the growth of female football and our programme has gone from strength to strength under her guidance, both in terms of participation numbers and performance.

Football at Cirencester College is in a fantastic place. Both our Men’s and Women’s squad enjoyed very successful seasons last year and we are looking forward to the year ahead.”
